The idea of devleoping a tool for both artists and stationary enthusiasts, came to being from insights based on functional tools for the professional craftsman. Taking inspiration from quality Japanese measuring tools the Marking Tools Hole Drafter is practical distinct way of making marks a with specific distances apart.
The measurement of theMT is set to 148 x 210mm based on the (A)ISO 216 standard of paper sizes. The theory is that the tool itself could scale up and down utilizing new hole distances and its empty space with more detailed features.
PROCESS - PROTOTYPE - ITERATE
This project brief was to create a measurement tool specifically designed to solve a problem and to focus on the enterprise aspect of a design project. The main goals I set up were to create a tool that could help people make sequential holes or marks using in as little parts as possible, as cheap as possible. The process of creating different prototypes and testing different form factors based around the universal spirit level lead me to create the MT-A5.
